The Course

The A Level Photography course at Hellesdon High School is a two year programme of study designed to encourage creativity and experimentation.

In Year One students will…

  • Experiment with cameraless processes such as cyanotypes and photograms
  • Be introduced to film photography
  • Learn how to use manual camera settings to control exposure
  • Be taught how to use studio lights
  • Be taught how to use flash guns
  • Learn portrait photography
  • Learn macro photography
  • Learn panoramic photography
  • Have the opportunity to develop their own ideas from a self-identified starting point
  • Produce high-quality, ambitious final pieces
  • Be introduced to the work of important photographers and genres
  • Learn how to analyse the work of other photographers effectively
  • Drink tea and eat lots of biscuits

 

In Year Two students will…

  • Use the skills they have gained in Year One, produing a large body of work on a self-identified theme.
  • Produce high-quality, ambitious final pieces
  • Produce a Personal Study essay (3,000 words) on a chosen photographer’s work
  • Complete an externally set assignment based on a given theme
  • Drink more tea and eat more biscuits… and possibly cake.
